An old LP made me nostalgic
made me reflect
I remembered the boy I once was
It had quite an effect

The child I was sat there
with Barry and Barbra
listening to what they’d sing
There’d be broken hearts
a sigh of relief
and a true romance or a fling

But then I’d shy from stuff
and think about how it sounded to me
I discarded all things
superficial and sentimentality
All trash and tripe it went out the window
it wasn’t cool enough for me
and with this new found hipness
the door was closed on my old LP

And on TV there’d be an old film
one afternoon
and the hours I spent in
total amazement at some cartoon
It was the cheapest way to be happy
to escape for a while
Unaware what was the fashion
these things made me smile

listening to what they’d say
There’d be love affairs
secret entanglements
the heroes would be ok - yeah

But then I’d shy from stuff
and think about how it looked to me
I discarded all things
superficial and sentimentality
All trash and tripe it went out the window
it wasn’t cool enough for me
and with this new found hipness
the door was closed on my old TV

A part of me
will always love trash
I’m no snob
